Near Cabras is situated the village of S. Salvatore, an |
ancient suburb that in August and September gets crowded |
for the celebration of the rites in honour of the Saint of which |
the village brings the name. The celebrations terminate on |
the first Sunday of September with the run of the barefooted |
people, a walking procession during which the Saint’s |
simulacrum is carried by running to the church of Pieve di |
Santa Maria Assunta in Cabras. The origins of the run are. |
uncertain and muddle up with the religious creed. The legend |
says that in 1506 during a nth barbarian raid, while the men |
defended the costs, the women would have carried the Saint |
transferring him from the village of San Salvatore to Cabras |
