Near Cabras is situated the village of S. Salvatore, an

ancient suburb that in August and September gets crowded

for the celebration of the rites in honour of the Saint of which

the village brings the name. The celebrations terminate on

the first Sunday of September with the run of the barefooted

people, a walking procession during which the Saint’s

simulacrum is carried by running to the church of Pieve di

Santa Maria Assunta in Cabras. The origins of the run are.

uncertain and muddle up with the religious creed. The legend

says that in 1506 during a nth barbarian raid, while the men

defended the costs, the women would have carried the Saint

transferring him from the village of San Salvatore to Cabras
